The University of Niš hosted the sixth seminar on the competitive advantages for business and the benefits for society of the Erasmus+ project CIRCLEcon (26.06.2024)

As part of the work package four (WP4) of the Erasmus+ project "Trifold approach to circular economy: perspectives of academia, business and wider society", 2022-1-BG01-KA220-HED-000085464, the sixth workshop was held at the Faculty of Economics University of Nis, Serbia, from 24-26 June, 2024. The participants of the workshop were representatives of four partner universities - D. A. Tsenov Academy of Economics Svishtov, ARTIFEX University Bucharest, Istanbul Esenyurt Üniversitesi and the Faculty of Economics, University of Nis. The workshop was organized by the Faculty of Economics, University of Niš, partner on this project, headed by Prof. Dr. Maja Ivanovic-Djukic, local project coordinator.

After the welcome speech by the dean of the Faculty of Economics University of NIs, prof dr. Tadija Djukic, representative of host institution, local project coordinator Prof Dr. Maja Ivanovic Djukic presented an Agenda of the workshop and announced the accompanying activities for next few days.

Project manager, Prof. Dr. Andrey Zahariev presented project brief and overview of WP4 and Summary of the achievements of Workshops 4. Project digital work producer Slaveyko Slavkov explained Workshop 6 needed output for the digital result development. Representatives of each partners presented of the developed content. More specific, they discussed about the main objectives reached by The Handbook on Circular Economy Challenges to business and society; a comprehensive overview of existing topics coverage related to circular economy was given and applicable approaches towards legal aspect in field of circular economy in partner countries; All members of workshop participated in an interactive discussion related to goals and achieved results within the forth work package of the Erasmus+ project CIRCLEcon.

Brainstorming session on the needs of additional content for the chapters of “The Handbook on Circular Economy Challenges to business and society” was organized. During the active discussion on the topic of introducing the circular economy in wider society and brainstorming sessions, the additional  content.

After the presentation of the developed content and identified additional content for The Handbook on Circular Economy Challenges to business and society, the last day of the workshop was dedicated to the discussion of the digital outputs related to work package 4. Also, discussion on the consistency of the content and links to previous outputs under WP2 and WP3 was organized. At the end of the workshop, Prof. Dr. Tadija Djukic, dean of the Faculty of Economics University of Nis, awarded all participants certificates of participation.

In addition to the activities provided in the Agenda, and in line with the "green" focus of the project, a visit to the Glass recycling factory “SFR” in Grejac (https://sfr.rs/ ) was organized. The manager of company “SFR” presented the company, its operations and the business model, the current activities and the plans for the future. The participants of the workshop visited the plant where recycling is carried out, after the presentation of the company. The tour of the recycling plant was led by the company's manager. The manager explained to the participants how recycling is done. As well as he showed and explained the process of recycling of glass. Project participants were enabled to understand the business model of a company in the field of circular economy, to raise awareness of the advantages of recycling glass, as well as the economic opportunities offered to companies in the field of circular economy.

Project participants will share their experience, gained by visiting this company, with their colleagues, students and representatives of the local community and contribute to raising awareness of the importance of the circular economy, which is one of the key goals of the CIRCLEcon project.
